The Ram softball team fell to the South Hamilton Hawks in the home opener on Wednesday, June 17.
At the plate, the Rams struggled to get anything going all game, putting just one run up on the board. The team was only able to get three hits, and added two walks, to total five base runners for the entire game.
On the mound, freshman Emma Hoyle gave up three earned and four unearned runs in 6 1/3 innings of work for the Rams. Hoyle walked two batters, hit another, and struck out five while giving up nine hits. Eighth grader Kylee Stalder finished up the game for the Rams, not giving up any runs in 2/3 innings of work. Stalder walked one batter and gave up one hit in her time on the mound.
In the field, the Rams had four errors, which proved costly and led to four unearned runs.
Both teams played well up until the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings when South Hamilton scored six of their seven runs on the day. Having struggled all evening at the plate, the Rams were able to get a consolation run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Greene County ended up losing 7-1.
Greene County will look for their second win as they travel to Gilbert Friday.
